Who Is Dr. Anthony Sweeting?
Dr. Anthony Sweeting is not only the mentor of and childhood friend of motivational speaker Les Brown, he is an accomplished actor, director, producer and trainer is his own right.
Dr. Sweeting is the author, lead actor, director and producer of The Soul of Nat Turner, winner of the Donald Davis Playwright Award. His production company, Multi-Cultural Arts Enterprises, successfully toured this play on both the East and West Coasts. In addition, his publications include the Dunbar Hotel and Central Avenue Renaissance, 1781-1950, a Doctoral Dissertation which highlights the rich cultural and theatrical achievements of Black Los Angeles during the first half of the Twentieth Century. He co-authored the book, God I Listened: The Eula McClaney Story. Eula McClaney was a Black Multi-Millionaire and philanthropist who donated millions to such worthy causes as the NAACP’s Negro College Fund. Dr. Sweeting served as Associate Professor for many years. He is a much sought after lecturer and provided services to colleges and universities such as UCLA, Faulkner University and Alabama State University. He served as Acting Instructor at Inner City Cultural Center in Los Angeles during its banner years alongside celebrated artist, such as Beah Richards and Raymond St. Jacques.
For several years he performed as repertory actor in the Alabama Shakespearean Festival’s Southern Writer’s Project. Other award and honors include, Who’s Who Among Colleges and Universities, the distinction of being selected as Regent’s Scholar in California, winning the President’s Dissertation Year Award in Theater Arts and receiving a commendation from the Ohio House of Representatives for Excellence in Performing and Directing.
Dr. Sweeting serves as mentor and acting coach to students for around the globe, including the nationally renowned and award winning Les Brown. Currently, he provides speaker training and instruction with Les Brown Speaker Network representing nearly 100 speakers around the globe.
Dr. Sweeting was expertly groomed and trained during his formative years for a career in Theater Arts by the incomparable Mr. Leroy Washington who served as a solid foundation for the remainder of his education. He received a Bachelors of Science in Speech and Drama from Florida A&M University, Master in Arts from the University of California at Santa Barbara and a Doctorate in Theater Arts from the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Sweeting resides in Altanta.
Currently, Dr. Sweeting conducts a series of workshops throughout the United States to assist individuals with the necessary tools for public speaking.
